Diplomatic Advisor for the Near and Middle East, The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

Nicholas Hawton is the Diplomatic Adviser for the Near and Middle East with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Based in Geneva, he works in the ICRC’s Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy Division. His role takes him to various countries in the Middle East to engage in humanitarian diplomacy. Prior to his current position, Mr Hawton was the ICRC’s Senior Writer and Editor, writing principally on Middle Eastern humanitarian issues. Before joining the ICRC, Mr Hawton worked for the European Union in Libya, and in the Balkans. He holds a BA Honours Degree in Modern History from Oxford University.
