Katharina Lumpp is Representative of UNHCR in Turkey since October 2017. Previously, she was the UNHCR Representative in Germany, in Berlin (2015-2017). She started her career as a volunteer in the Protection Section at the UNHCR Representation in Sudan (Khartoum, 1990). Later, she worked as Assistant External Affairs Officer at the UNHCR Representation in Belgium (Brussels, 1994) and as Associate Legal Officer at UNHCR in Bonn (Germany, 1995). Ms. Lumpp spent the longest period of her UNHCR career by serving in Afghanistan as Protection Officer (1998 – 2002) and Senior Protection Officer (2004 – 2006). She continued her career as Deputy Regional Representative (Protection), at the Regional Representation in Egypt (Cairo, 2006). Later, she worked as Deputy Regional Representative at UNHCR Representation for Southern Europe, based in Italy, Rome and Greece, Athens (2019-2013).

She worked as Head of Protection Service at the Office of the Director, Bureau for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in Jordan, Amman (2014-2015). She was deployed on emergency missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (1996), to fYROM (1999) and to Cȏte D’Ivoire (2006). Ms. Katharina Lumpp was born in Germany in 1966. She speaks German, English, French and Italian. She completed her education in law at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg and at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, completing the state exams in law in 1994.
